Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis hails the series' roots and sends you to rescue a princess in the latest collaboration

Usually, when we discuss Square Enix, it is to report on them closing another mobile game. Even the good news comes with bad. Today, however, it is all positive. That is because Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is kicking off a month-long collaboration that starts today and will last until September 6th.

The collab in question is with Dragon Quest Tact, another Square Enix property. Kind of like two survivors huddling together for warmth, waiting for their owner to drop the axe again. The crossover brings its own original story, complete with some iconic Dragon Quest enemies, and a few new outfits to don.

It is a tale as old as time, as “The All-knowing Slime and the Thespian Soldier” sets you on a quest to rescue a kidnapped princess. It is also a tale that Final Fantasy VII did at the Gold Saucer during the date scene. To complete the theme, you can obtain Erdick’s Armour for Cloud, a fantasy knight's attire, and the Supreme Sage Garb for Aertih. 

During your adventure, you will take on recognisable enemies from the Dragon Quest franchise, including the King Slime and King She-Slime. Apparently, the monarchy here is ruthlessly anti-Queen. Sephiroth will also show up under the guise of Psaro Banesword, with a design that utterly takes away all his imposing atmosphere.

As you complete the Event, you will find your pockets bulging with exchangeable items that can be, shock horror, traded for special items. The highlight reward to shoot for here is Red XIII’s Great Sabrecat skin. It isn’t better than the original, but it's a collectable. There will also be the event wallpaper, so you remember your time battling slimes.

Finally, what we all love: free stuff. You can receive a Crossover Gift that contains the likes of 20 Refined Mythril and 1,500 Blue Crystals. Logging in daily will next you 10 Draws, up to a maximum of 380 Draws. You will also get 5 Refined Mythril, 750 Blue Crystals, and 50 Crossover Special Draw Tickets as a Login Bonus. Finally, completing the Panel Missions will add another 10 Refined Mythril, as well as more special Wallpapers.
