Battle Suit Aces arrives on mobile thanks to the Crunchyroll Vault

Over the past few years, the deckbuilder has experienced a surge in popularity, and for good reason. Games like Slay the Spire or Monster Train are hits, and of course, Balatro. But what would happen if you fired one into space and it landed in the middle of a mech battle? Well, you would get Crunchyroll's Battle Suit Aces.

Or, technically, Crunchyroll’s anyway. Trinket Studios developed and released it, but you need a Crunchyroll subscription to access it on mobile. With that, you will get access to the Crunchyroll Vault to play Battle Suit Aces, along with a host of other great games, including their own self-developed stuff.

Anyway, Vault aside, let's dive into Battle Suit Aces. This is a deckbuilder that follows a ragtag band of star pilots known as the Patchworks crew. Led by Captain Heahtcliff, they are dispatched by Union Command to investigate the mysterious Relic Suits that have appeared, and maybe save the galaxy along the way.

I am getting Gundam vibes, and I am loving it

Pitching itself as a Saturday morning cartoon, you will play through a 45-episode epic space story, bonding with the other members of Patchworks. What makes this better is that it is fully voiced, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the story. Bond with these characters, make friends, and then send them out to potential death in card game form.

Battles take place in lane-based combat, with a deck cobbled together from across five factions. You will be able to pick your favourite characters and suits, and level them up with mods, or surround them with Drones to generate energy. 

The combat system is easy enough for a beginner to get to grips with, but also contains enough synergy potential between cards to keep you intrigued and constantly tinkering to make the ultimate setup. The fact that it is Gundam in card form is just a delightful bonus.
