I have a confession: I have never played Balatro. I should, everyone went nuts for it, and it won so many awards, but it just looks a bit boring. There have been a few games like that, where I have thought nah and they have blown up. Another in that vein is Kenny Sun and Friends Ball x Pit.

If you haven’t played Ball x Pit, the crux of the gameplay is a brickbreaker, like Breakout. You fire balls at things and watch as they ricochet back and forth, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. It is the type of gameplay you have one or two matches of, and then wander off. And yet, Ball x Pit has become a worldwide hit off the back of it.

It does have some unique twists to the genre. You control a hero who is fully mobile, so you aren't a paddle stuck on the x-axis. Your weapon can also take on special effects to mix things up, and not to mention the village builder that makes up another chunk of the gameplay. The loop is you throw balls at things, and then go and make buildings.

But, you might be thinking, why are we talking about Ball x Pit? It is only out on consoles and Switch, the devil’s portable device.

Well, publisher Devolver Digital posted on TwiX in the New Year about their mobile offers, and amongst others like the Reigns series and Cult of the Lambs, you can spot Ball x Pit in the image.

And you know what? I think it would make a fantastic mobile game. It might even get me to play it. The gameplay does sound like you do one run and then wander off, which is perfect for your mobile.

On your lunch break or before bed, just whip that phone out and have a run or two. And unless someone at Devolver was celebrating a little too hard, it seems like it is on the way.
