Tomb Raider lets you guide a fledgling Lara Croft through her first adventure as it launches on mobile

I think I have mentioned this before on this site, but Tomb Raider was my first PlayStation 1 game. I still remember those bats flying at your face. Lara Croft has gone through a lot since then, including that rather well-received reboot.

And it is that 2013 Tomb Raider hit we are talking about today, as it finally releases on mobile.

Tomb Raider on mobile brings the nostalgia

Tomb Raider, the first in the Survivor trilogy, follows Lara Croft when she has yet to obtain this illustrious title. On the way to her first archaeological expedition, she makes something of a navigation blunder as she urges her boat's crew to sail into the Dragon's Triangle. This, of course, works out very well, as a storm smashes the ship to splinters and strands Lara on the island of Yamatai.

You guide this fresh-faced adventurer through many a harrowing adventure on the island, tackling cultists, mercenaries, or wildlife. For a mysterious island, there certainly are an awful lot of outside mercenaries crawling about, it must be said. Having said that, this island is also home to a few tombs.

And you know what, I think they might need raiding.

This mobile adaptation is certainly an excellent way to enjoy this already very fun adventure. If you have a sluggish phone, you can toggle the graphics to prioritize performance. Or enjoy the lush jungle in high fidelity. The touch screen is also fully customisable, so you can wipe out the indigenous cult members in the most comfortable way. Like a true hero.

Technical options aside, there is another reason to jump on this version. It is sporting 12 free DLC packs. They include extra upgrades, outfits, and a bonus Challenge Tomb. And what is Lara Croft with Tombs? Just a Raider. That wouldn’t make a good job title. You need this edition, or Lara is just a grave robber, really.

Tomb Raider is available to purchase from the App Store and Google Play for $19.99.
