Darkside Detective: A Fumble In The Dark is free for a limited-time

Today, I come bearing news that a lot of people probably already know. But this is not just regular news. This is consumer news, as this week's free Epic Games Store game is The Darkside Detective: A Fumble In The Dark.

And when something like this is free, we've got to shout about it.

Fumble in the Dark gameplay

A Fumble in the Dark is the second in the Darkside Detective, and if you are thinking you need to play the first to understand it, then you are mostly wrong. DD2 is a collection of six cases, plus three bonus ones, that are self-contained stories for the most part. The only thing to note is that the first case picks up on a cliffhanger from the first game. So, bear that in mind.

Now that the warnings are out of the way, let's dive into what it is. Well, fairly obviously, Darkside Detective is a game where you investigate crimes. You will visit the lovely city of Twin Lakes, a place of beauty and very frequent police reports. However, not all of these are your run-of-the-mill cases, thanks to the city's link to anotherworldly plane, known as the Darkside.

Enter you, Detective Francis McQueen, and your partner, Patrick Dooley. Together, you will head off on a point-and-click adventure, taking you to such delightful locales as a carnival, an amateur wrestling production, and worst of all, a retirement home. Why couldn’t someone of haunted a water park, or a tropical island?

As is often the case for detective games like this, Darkside Detective is awash with pop culture references, witty one-liners, and amusing conversation between McQueen and Dooley. Add all this together, and it being free, then you would be crazy not to go for it.

To get Darkside Detective: A Fumble In The Dark for nothing, head to Epic Games.
