I don’t care how powerful it makes me, I would not stick my head inside another being

Once Human is a game that definitely has a bit of weirdness to it. There is a bus with legs that roams around, which I think sets the scene. And yet, NetEase has decided to one-up themselves with a new update that launched today, which includes a rather peculiar skill.

Let’s not keep anyone in suspense; we will be gaining the ability to fuse with enemy Deviants. And the way you do it is, let's say, interesting. There's no other way about it, you stick your head inside of theirs and wear them like a mask.

Not only does this get you a nifty bit of headwear and the instant urge to shower for 10 days, but you also get faction-specific abilities. And with even more Deviants on their way, there will be no end to the number of decapitated brain-boxes we can saunter around with. Well, that number is 3 more, but still.

Venture too deep into the mines, and you may be set upon by The Devourer, or follow The Hoarder Bug to its nest to loot many of its stolen valuables. Bear in mind, though, if it catches you, it will start stalking you, as any stolen loot is permanently marked. Alternatively, trade that loot to an unsuspecting friend if you want to be hilariously evil.

Our final Deviant is a dirty, rotten cheater. The Sonivore is literally indestructible, so you will need to lure it away from its nest with noise to steal its treasures. The infant Sonivore can be killed, however, if you want to vent your frustrations on it instead. I am reminded of Vegeta and child Gohan on Namek.

NetEase believes in the power of three, as there are also three new Deviant Zones to explore. The Wild Deviant Zone weakens guns and technology, forcing you to duke it out with the primal inhabitants in melee combat. Heading to the Mirror Deviant Zone will be rather confusing, as all buildings spawn with mirrors to disorient you, and enemies use trickery to hide and snipe you from afar.

Finally, the tricks continue in the Phantasmal Deviant Zone, as everything phases between real and illusion at the flip of a switch. You will question reality itself, like, is that giant beast real or not oh it ate me I guess it was real. And I thought Fusions would be the most unusual thing added. Probably still is.

Once Human is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
