Available now on Google Play: Locojoy Games’ Mystic Castle

If you like your text-based RPGs to straddle an array of genres and base themselves around a fantasy theme, Locojoy’s Mystic Castle is the title for you. Incorporating an aforementioned abundance of genres, including city builder, adventure and simulation, the predominant RPG has mass appeal across the board.

Initially released in March this year for iOS platforms only, the game is now set to be released for Android products on May 19th, for free. In addition to this, the iOS version will be free within the App Store for an exclusive period, running between May 20th – 27th.

With regards to actual gameplay, the plot follows an alchemist who finds they’re trapped in a dangerous dungeon with no choice than to attempt escape. Battling an influx of creatures and creations along the way, you must navigate the terrain through the means of different ‘events’. Said ‘events’ range from interactions that help improve on skills, to money deals that can make or break your character’s progression.

The title is incredibly generous with its maps and areas, boasting a mammoth 500 areas set over 10 maps. If you somehow manage to explore your way across all of these, there are also expansion packs available through IAPs. Despite being such an immersive plot, the game is perfect for those who want an easy-going experience – there’s no need for incessant log-ins or check ups with this one, even in-game resources replenish whilst not in use.

For iOS users, you can enjoy the most recent update, which brings with it two new areas that you can sink your teeth into: the Eternal Arena and the Dark Rift. The former, a perilous maze, sees your character weave their way to the exit whilst battling an onslaught of enemies along the way. The Dark Rift, however, takes the guise of a trial tower, which you must ascend to the top, fighting more challenging foes as you go.
