Little Nightmares is free to download from Epic Games for a limited time

I am subscribed to Humble Bundle, purely because I don't want to lose the legacy price plan. It has been years, and I have barely downloaded any of those games.

I say this to contrast it with Epic Games, whose free game initiative has knocked it out of the park twice recently. Once with Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark last month, and now with Little Nightmares.

For those who are unaware, Little Nightmares is a platformer developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai, which makes it amazing off the bat. Luckily, however, that is not the only thing that makes it great.

Little Nightmares is a fantastic horror game that follows a diminutive child named Six. She awakens in an imposing metal monstrosity titled the Maw, a place where everything is massive to Six. You need to work your way across perilous drops, find your way past massive obstacles, and get Six to safety.

This is a goal that is somewhat hampered by the fact that there are grotesque characters all trying to recapture your tiny charge. Whether that be The Janitor with his long arms to grab Six from wherever she is trying to hide. Or The Chefs, an overly rotund, cleaver-wielding menace who wants to turn you into dinner.

I said this in my review from way back, but a mobile is the perfect way to play Little Nightmares. The whole point of the game is that Six is so small and fragile, having to hide or flee from all her foes, and struggling to even climb a box. Having her on your phone, in the palm of your hand, makes her feel that much more fragile. 

The control handling is a little iffy so sometimes you walk into the abyss, but hey, you are getting it for free. You can handle a few faceplants, so head over to Epic Games and grab your copy before it's too late.
