Heartopia gets an official release date quite early into 2026
I love dogs, but I won't be spending a fortune in gacha for one
I have recently gotten back into Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I don’t know why, but I am enjoying it. These fun, relaxing little sims are incredibly enjoyable, and soon we shall have another. This is because XD Games has announced the release date for Heartopia, and it is quite soon.
It will arrive soon after that eldritch abomination known as Santa has somehow visited every house in the world but one night and slipped all our defenses. If that isn't an eldritch horror, I don’t know what is. Back to the point. Heartopia will launch on mobile on January 7th.
If you make sure to pre-register on Google Play or the App Store, you will be greeted with 4,000 Gold, 20 Wishing Stars, and more goodies. This will help jump-start your adventures in this life simulation, where you can build friendships, create your own personal style, and adopt a pet. Adopt all the pets; that is the aim of the game.
The backdrop to this adventure will be a city filled to the brim with story events and characters to bond with, and one of the press art pieces has a dog in a car. That right there is the endgame for me. It is a husky too, that’s like the perfect dog. I am excited to try this, mostly.
There is, of course, that one asterisk floating around: monetisation. XD Games does have a few titles in its repertoire that feature gacha mechanics, like GoGo Muffins and Etheria Restart. Even without specific examples, I am sure everyone is expecting it in one form or another.
A cosy life sim shouldn't have any gacha, in my opinion. Like Animal Crossing, you should be able to collect things by playing. Even in that prime example of the genre, Pocket Camp had banners. I suppose all we can do is hope that it isn’t that heavily monetised. Pretty sad that this is the state we are in now.
