A new character is nice, but getting your money back is even better

Around two months ago, Chaos Zero Nightmare was released, and it hasn’t exactly set the world ablaze. In fact, developers Super Creative pulled it from the Anime×Game Festival last month due to some unhappy fans making uncomfortable comments. Or to give them their proper title: idiots.

Well, now Chapter 2 has launched, and will hopefully right the ship a bit.

I do certainly hope that Chaos Zero Nightmare manages to bounce back and improve, because it has some pretty interesting-sounding mechanics. The stress and Mental Breakdown system makes me think of Darkest Dungeon, and that was a very solid game.

Chapter 2 sees the protagonists chasing Kaguya Pharmaceutical to recover the stolen Primonium, resulting in a showdown with Yuki. You will also be able to take part in the Great Rift, a ranking mode where you score higher by dealing more damage to a boss. The best performers will net currency and limited-edition decorations.

You can also upgrade your team with the arrival of Chizuru. She is a 5-star Void Psionic Combatant who uses the Cursed Shackles skill in combat. This gets her powerful upgrade cards, including Bound At Dusk, which reduces card-use costs. Perfect for resource management.

There is also a new Partner in the form of Itsuku.

Even better, when it comes to characters, upgrading your Combatants and Partners will now permanently cost 80% less. Clearly a reaction to the greed criticism being levied. Also, anyone who has already spent on upgrades will receive a reimbursement of the difference. Speaking of currency, you can take your Crystal of Discords, found in Chaos Manifestation, Codex, and Galactic Disaster, to the new Blackhorn Trade to buy upgrade items.

Following the trend of improvements, a messenger system called Unigram has been added to help you bond with your recruited friends. Each character will also now have a Favourite Present to help raise that affection level even more.

Finally, something we all love; free stuff. There is a 21-day check-in event going on that will reward players with the likes of Rescue Anchors and Signal Amplification Anchors to help pull for Combatants and Partners. There are also growth materials, Prism Lenses, and more.

Chaos Zero Nightmare is available from the App Store and Google Play.
