There are plenty of people out there that like sushi, but nobody likes sushi as much as Sushi Boy. The Barrios brothers +1, making up the development team wefiends, have created the happiest, most exciting casual game this side of Tomena Sanner.

Sushi Boy is a simple game that has you running around the screen collecting sushi from the sky while avoiding awful things like poop and shoes. This isn’t just a labor of love though, as you lose life when sushi hits the ground. As you progress through the game you reach bonus rounds that have you blasting off into a super happy coin collecting stages. The coins can then be used once you die on all sorts of goodies, like new head types, new level backgrounds, and best of all, pets.

Pets, in Sushi Boy, are the best way to get far in the game. As the sushi rains down faster and faster, there is no possible way to collect it all on your own. To compensate for your lack of speed, you can buy pets that move around independently to cover more ground. The pets go from lazy dogs, to mediocre frogs, to the super expensive robot that almost works better than you do. Other than coin collecting help, pets really don’t change the game at all, but they do wonders for the games replayability.

In the end, Sushi Boy isn’t quite as epic as some of the best high score games, like Canabalt and Ninjump, but it does have a sort of style that isn’t found in many other games in the App Store. Fans of the genre will get a kick out of shooting for the global high scores while gamers of all ages will appreciate the sheer happiness of the zany gameplay.
