Evergrow, that beloved physics puzzler turned action game, is back with a huge update that’s expanding the game in some major ways. Evergrow will now feature new gameplay modes, a host of unique mini games, and much more. There’s so much happening here, we decided to write a whole guide for it. Let’s dig in, shall we?

Chill out with Zen Mode

Zen Mode offers a much more relaxing version of Evergrow. There’s no need to worry about matching colors or making the right moves in time. In Zen Mode, you’re free to keep adding blocks and growing your little blocky Chromaroid (the game’s character). The background color shifts between soothing cool and warm tones while peaceful music plays.

Change the way you play with six new mini games

Evergrow now features four brand new mini games, with two arriving a bit later. The Endless Survival mini game throws waves of good and bad blocks at players. Your goal is to try to get as far as you possibly can before you die. Two pre-existing levels will get their own survival mini games, too. You can now play the Black Hole and Nebula levels as special mini games, forcing you to play in the pitch dark.

The fourth mini game, Time Attack, adds permadeath to the original game, but you’ll also have to beat each level in a set period of time. If you run out, it’s game over for you. Time Attack has thrown in colorful floating balls that will give you some precious extra seconds, thankfully.

Power Blocks are much more important

In Evergrow, you can collect Power Blocks, special blocks that grant you special abilities like cannons, coin magnets, and much more. Mini games offer a steep challenge, so you’ll be relying on these Power Blocks to get you through. You’ll find these special blocks by playing through the game’s main story mode or purchasing them from the multidimensional bucket. These are the Power Blocks you can currently buy in game (with in-game currency, no in-app purchases here!):

  • Coin Magnet: Attracts coins
  • Ancestors: Deploy some enigmatic creatures that floats around and protects you from bad blocks
  • Filler: Generate a bunch of new blocks
  • Nuke: Kills all bad blocks in the area
  • Shield: Deploy a shield that blocks bad blocks
  • Time Field: Slow down blocks around area of action
  • Turret: Deploy an automatic turret
  • Cannon: Deploy a powerful cannon
  • Fixer: Fill empty spaces
  • Lightning: Attacks bad blocks with lightning strikes
  • Color Field: Creates a field that converts all blocks in the area to the Chromaroid's compatible color
  • Gravity: Attracts blocks
