Pokemon GO: How to hatch Pokemon Eggs without walking

Playing Pokemon GO without walking is sort of defeating the purpose. Nintendo wanted Niantic to help it create a game that would get people up and moving about, and darned if that isn't exactly what they got.

Nowhere is that more true than when it comes to hatching Pokemon Eggs. As we've told you previously, there are three kinds of eggs, each of which takes a different amount of walking to hatch. Or maybe we should say "walking" in quotes, because despite the developers' best intentions, there are ways around doing 10 km on the shoe leather express.

Driving won't work. Pokemon GO understands you're moving too fast to be walking, and it won't credit you with the distance traveled that way. So give the devs full marks for eliminating the easiest way out.

Still, where there's a will, there's a way. Some players have reportedly been able to hatch Pokemon Eggs by skateboarding very slowly, but even that requires some physical exertion. What we're looking for is a way to incubate without doing anything but sitting on your behind.

Happily, such a way exists. here's what you need to do ...

Find a turntable

For you kid out there, older adults might call them record players. They're magical devices with strange black discs that produce music, necessary in the Time Before Streaming.

Put your phone on the turntable

CNET says that you'll need to hang the phone slightly over the edgeof the turntable for best results. You may want to tape it in place, because it's going to be there for a while.

Turn the turntable to its highest speed setting and turn it on

The suggested speed is 78 rpm, which, again for the youth, was used to play even smaller magic music discs.

Then you just leave the game on and leave your phone on the turntable until the egg is hatched, as both Pokemon GO and the device should believe they are moving. And they are, technically. The sad thing is that you can't listen to a record at the same time.

The biggest advantage of the turntable hack versus other non-walking Egg-hatching schemes you may have seen floating around the internets is that it won't smash up your iPhone. Attaching your phone to a fan or a bike tire, in contrast, could do nasty, warranty-voiding things, and we don't recommend that.

Hopefully this ensures you have a way to hatch a Pokemon Egg or two while doing less walking. And we won't tell the devs or your doctor about it.
