When I first booted up Infectonator 3: Apocalypse, I was surprised by the sheer amount of stuff going on it. From crafting and leveling zombies to the intricacies of managing a wandering horde of braindead zombies, it can be overwhelming.

This is especially true since you're supposed to manage all this stuff while humanity is racing toward a cure to end your entire run, which would make you have to start the whole game all over again. If you're a newcomer to the Infectonator games, check out this handy little guide to help you in your efforts to infect the planet.

Play in Casual Mode

If you just want to explore and learn the myriad systems at-play in Infectonator 3, I highly recommend you play your first run in Casual Mode. In this mode, humans aren't able to research a cure to the undead pandemic.

This can make the game feel pretty easy, especially at first, but the game still ramps up to a pretty healthy challenge over time. More importantly though, playing in Casual Mode gives you a lot of runway to explore the different kinds of zombies, DNA upgrades, weapons, etc. so you can decide what will be the most important tools in your arsenal when you decide to take on a non-casual run.

Pay attention to the news

After completing an infection site, make sure you take a second to pay attention to any fake news reports that come out afterward. Although these segments just look like some nice set-dressing, they can also be quite informative.

Things like “increased gang activity” or “heightened police presence” reported in specific regions means that there will be more people with weapons ready to cut down your undead soldiers, for instance. In these situations, you might want to look to attack areas that aren't so well armed, or at least stock up on your own armaments before taking on these heightened threats.

Infect the cops

Whenever you're playing an infection scenario, you can start your infection by launching a four-way blast of green goo that transforms people into zombies. At every opportunity, you should try to make sure this blast turns police into zombies.

Why? Because they have guns! Taking away any amount of guns that could harm your precious zombies makes sure you'll stand a better chance at reaching your infection goal.

Aim for perfection

Each infection scenario in Infectonator 3 gives you a target number of people to infect, but you should always aim to eliminate all humans on any given map. This is because doing so gives you a “Perfect” rating, which comes along with bonus rewards.

Most of the time, these extra goodies are zombies and money, two essential ingredients to keeping your horde nice and strong. An added bonus of aiming for “Perfect” ratings is it escalates your infection rate of a region, which can let you conquer it faster. This might not be a big deal if you're playing in Casual Mode, but if you're racing humanity as they search for a cure, anything that can speed up the spread of your virus is worth pursuing.
