Legendary Pokémon have landed in the world of Pokémon GO at long last. It's time to seize the summer and head out and catch some ultra powerful Legendary Birds and maybe, just maybe, a Lugia to call your very own.

Today marks the last day you'll be able to capture an Articuno, so get out there if you haven't found one already. This evening, Moltres will take Articuno's place, and you'll be able to find one in Raid Battles through August 7. Zapdos will follow after, arriving on August 7 and departing August 14.

Once you have the schedule down, you'll need some good strategies to ensure you can capture these elusive creatures. Use these tips to capture the Legendary Pokémon without fail.

Map out your local gyms

Raid battles go down at gyms, so you'll need to keep an eye out for raids that might yield Legendary Pokémon. Gymhuntr is a useful tool that allows you to enter your location and view all of the gym battles and raids happening in your area. If you don't want to leave things to chance, keep track of this helpful map.

Team Up

Legendary Raid Battles have a 48-hour countdown timer, giving you plenty of time to plan your next attack. You won't be able to capture a legendary on your own. Gather a group of friends, or see if there's a Pokémon GO group in your area and try to organize your own raid. Reddit, Facebook, and Discord are all great resources.

Play to the birds' weaknesses

Clocking in at over 30,000 CP, the legendary birds are no joke. You will need a strong group of fellow trainers and strong Pokémon if you want to have a chance at capturing one. Each legendary bird has an elemental affinity, so make sure you send in Pokémon that are strong against that element.

For the upcoming Moltres, send in Rock-type or Water-type Pokémon to do the most damage. All of the birds are also part Flying-type, so Electric Pokémon would do well here, too.

Bring plenty of Berries

Once you conquer the Pokémon in the raid, you still have to capture the beast. Your odds of catching a Legendary without the help of items are pretty slim, even if you have a perfect throw.

Come to the Raid prepared. It's a good idea to use Golden Razz Berries to increase your odds. It also helps a good deal if you have a Gold Medal for the bird's type. On top of that, try to get Nice or Excellent Pokéball throws. Practice a bit on other Pokémon before you head into the Raid if your throws need some work.

r/SilphRoad, the dedicated Pokémon GO subreddit has some excellent strategies, too, including the ball-throwing strategy featured in the video above.
