Yankai's Peak

Another week has flown by. Why it feels like only a matter of minutes ago it was the start of January and we all swore blind we were going to keep our New Year's resolutions. Now it's February, and time has once again proven how utterly weak we are.

On a cheerier note though, Friday is when we round up the best games that are currently on sale on the App Store. There are some pretty good deals out there at the moment, especially if you like puzzlers or games about completely obliterating the human race. I've included download links and links to our reviews if they're available, but if you've got your own suggestions I'd love to hear them in the comments section at the bottom of the article.

Yankai's Peak - download for iOS (now $2.99)

A game all about pushing a pyramid around a series of tricky levels. It's all about how the shape interacts with the other shapes on the board. The puzzles are tough in just the right way, and while you might get stuck from time to time, there's always another challenge waiting for you.

Circa Infinity - download for iOS (now $1.99)

Another game from the dev behind Yankai's Peak. This one sees you leaping around a series of concentric circles. Essentially it's the platform game turned in on itself. Once you get your head around the game's slightly strange way of doing things, you'll find an amazing experience.

Flick Kick Field Goal - download for iOS (now free)

You can pretty much work out what this one is about from the name. Flick a football in between the posts. And keep doing it forever. It's the sort of mindless time sink that mobile gaming is really good at, and for free it's well worth picking up.

Neo Angle - download for iOS (now free)

Another shape-based puzzler. This one comes with a neon hue and a series of fiendish head-scratchers that are perfect for anyone who wants to give their brain a good work out. It's definitely not the simplest experience, but it still somehow manages to be be soothing as well.

Kahuna - download for iOS (now 99c)

A pair of rival magicians fight over an island in the South Pacific in this slick board game adaptation. There's a campaign mode as well as the customary multiplayer. If you're a fan of cards and thinking, then this is the game you should be picking up this week.

Crowntakers - download for iOS (now $2.99)

A gorgeous looking mash up of a roguelike and a hex-based strategy game. It's super deep and fun in all the right ways, as well as being stuffed to the gills with content. It takes ideas from a bunch of genres, then squishes them together to make something really special.

First Strike: Final Hour - download for iOS (now $1.99)

A simulation that puts you in control of one of the world's nuclear powers. It's up to you to nuke all of your opponents before they get the chance to do it to you. Depressing and exhilarating in equal measures, there's a staunch anti-war message here but the game lets you come to your own conclusions.
