It is a good time to be a Pokémon TCG Pocket fan, because the next expansion is set to drop on July 30th. Why is this good? It means I can take everyone's Eevees using the new trade system! It also means that Generation 2 is stepping into the spotlight in the Wisdom of Sea and Sky set.

Whilst I am not a fan of the majority of the Gen 2 Pokémon, I will acknowledge that it is part of the golden era, before the developers started running out of ideas. Mega Dragonite is the beginning of the end. I am sure that’s all people took from Pokémon Presents. Having said that, there are a few interesting-looking cards.

Ho-Oh EX might just be the key to multi-elemental decks. Phoenix Turbo costs three colourless energy and lets you add a Fire, Water, and Electric energy to your benched Pokémon. Or, pair them with their counterpart Lugia EX. They require one of each of those Energy to whip out a 180 damage attack. It does discard all three Energy, though, so you would need a lot of switching power.

Cleffa might be good for its move that lets you add a random Pokémon from your deck to your hand, but it only has 30 HP, so you would need to guard it carefully. My highlights, however, are Umbreon EX and Espeon EX. Umbreon's ability lets it switch in an opponent's benched Pokémon that has taken damage, provided Umbreon is in the Active Spot. Whereas Espeon, when in the active spot, can heal 30 damage from one of your Pokémon.

As mentioned above, the new Trade system will also be in place. This adds a Wishlist so you can show what cards you are after, but more importantly, it overhauls the current trading system, which is awful. Trade Tokens are gone, and instead trades will cost Shinedust, which doesn’t require scrapping your cards. A huge win.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is available from the App Store and Google Play.
