How to summon and defeat the Eye of Cthulhu in Terraria

Terraria can be full of weird bosses. Think about it, you fight the Eye of Cthulhu and the Brain of Cthulhu, but you never meet Cthulhu. Either way, you’ll meet the Eye before the Brain.

If you’ve just started playing Terraria, the Eye of Cthulhu is the first fight in the game. The gimmick here is that the boss is very likely to catch you off guard. To prepare you for the fight, here’s a quick Terraria boss guide!

How to Summon the Eye of Cthulhu

To summon the Eye of Cthulhu, you don’t need to do much. All you need is to gather 200 HP from Life Hearts, 10 defense up, and have four NPCs out and about. The Traveling Merchant also counts as an NPC.

As soon as these conditions are met, the Eye shows up. Do keep an eye out for the Eye of Cthulhu. If you’re not attentive, the Eye will creep up on you.

After beating the Eye once, it is often farmed for drops. You can summon the Eye later with a Suspicious Looking Eye. To make a Suspicious Looking Eye, you need six lenses. You can put these together on a Crimson Altar or Demon Altar.

How to Defeat the Eye of Cthulhu in Terraria

The Eye of Cthulhu is the first boss you go head-to-head with. Considering that the boss battles get harder as you move forward, the Eye of Cthulhu is relatively easy to defeat.

Try to build some platforms to jump around and dodge the boss. These platforms will be super-important if you only have a melee weapon.

The Eye of Cthulhu has two phases – a regular one and another that’s more aggressive. Obviously, it gets up close and personal during the aggressive cycle. At this point, it does the most damage. After attacking you three times in a row, the boss will pause. This is when you strike.

Best Weapons and Armor to Defeat Eye of Cthulhu

To beat the Eye of Cthulhu, you can use any ranged weapon, like a bow and arrow or guns. Anything that has a range will be effective against the boss.

Melee weapons aren’t very useful against the main boss. A gold or platinum sword will help you slay the Servants of Cthulhu. But to kill the boss quickly, ranged weapons like a gold or platinum bow with flaming or regular arrows will be effective.

In the armor department, you can pick gold, tungsten, or platinum armor. All of these armor sets will be sufficient to get you through the fight. Try getting your hands on Hermes Boots for flying around quickly.
