It's hard to accurately describe Rodeo Stampede to people who haven't seen it yet. It's like if someone took Crossy Roadand Disco Zoo and put them in a blender, yet with a unique game mechanic that's still simple and fun for anyone.

While there's more to it than just learning how to lasso animals, that's a pretty good place to start since you'll never be a sky zoo tycoon without befriending some animals first. With that in mind, here are some tips on how to ride longer and tame more animals to get you stampeding on your way.

Your first rodeo

Rodeo Stampede does have a tutorial, but it can be a little tricky to figure out exactly what you have to do except for the bare basics. To review, you start each run on an animal, which you ride by keeping your thumb on the screen and dragging to steer left or right.

To leap to another animal, you simply take your thumb off the screen. The action will slow as your cowboy (or cowgirl, as the case may be) flies through the air, and a yellow circle will appear to mark your lassoing radius. Once an animal appears in that circle, simply put your thumb back on the screen, and you'll ride that one forward.

The most important concept here is that you can't change directions once you're in the air, so judging the distance and direction before you let go is key.

From angry to tame

Eventually, every animal will tire of hauling your butt around and turn angry, starting to buck. An exclamation point will appear on the screen when anger is setting in, giving you time to make your move before the action turns into something out of 8 Seconds.

Here's the thing: When you're trying to tame an animal you've not added to your zoo yet (and you'll know because the word 'NEW' will appear above their heads), you actually need to ride it out until it gets to the angry phase. You'll just have to hold on until the timing bar above the animal fills up.

That's not necessarily easy, because ...

You have to avoid most things in your path

This would be a much easier game if you could simply blast through anything in your way. That's not the case, however, and a good part of having longer runs is steering around obstacles and other stampeding animals.

It can be a little tough at first to figure out what you can and can't run into without ending a ride. A nice general rule is that if it's smaller than you, a collision might be okay, whereas if it's the same size or bigger, you probably want to steer clear.

Thus, elephants can trample just about any animals out of their way, and can even be leveled up eventually to smash through rocks. An ostrich, on the other hand, will want to avoid anything but shrubs.

Speed kills, sometimes

Hitching a ride on a fast animal seems like a good way to get a longer run, and it definitely is. The trade-off is that it will get to the angry state faster, and, as mentioned, will not be able to shake off a collision with most other stampeding wildlife.

One final thing to remember when it comes to relative speeds is that when you come up on a pack of animals and have to leap, you don't want to wind up in the middle of the pack and have to swerve your way out of danger as soon as you land. Aim for the leader of the pack and give yourself some breathing room, and you'll almost always be better off.
