Get a free taste of the railroads as Sid Meier’s Railroads goes try-before-you-buy
I miss demo discs, the ones you got for PlayStation from the magazines. There was one that had a fighting game called Destrega on it, I played that one to death. Demos are incredible things that should be around more, and Feral Interactive clearly agree since Sid Meier’s Railroads is available in try-before-you-buy form.
It seems that we are hearing more and more lately that mobile developers are releasing lite versions of their games or giving us one or two free levels, which is genuinely fantastic. It is a feature that should be around more, and personally, it makes me more inclined to buy the game. So this a more than welcome move by Feral.
Players looking to get a taste of the railroad building life can experience the first 20 years of the Southwest US scenario completely for free. It is set during the California Gold Rush, a time when prospectors really needed the rails to move all their gold. Unfortunately, you aren't the only one looking to capitalise.
Rival barons will also be looking to make their fortune, so competition will be fierce. You will need to use all your acumen to build up your supply chains, invest in industries, and establish yourself as a force to be reckoned with. Construct tracks, link cities and industries, and become a railway god. And you still haven't paid anything yet.
If the bug bites and you get the itch to don one of those spiffy little train driver hats, then you can do so easily via an in-app purchase. This will give you access to 16 scenarios, 40-real world engines and the replayable Train Table Mode. You will also be able to build your own railway network in England, and you couldn’t possibly do worse than what we have already.
Sid Meier’s Railroads! Is available to try for free from the App Store and Google Play, with an option to upgrade for $12.99.
