Even just for 100k pre-registrations, they managed to pick a less appealing Digimon than Sukamon

The fated day is getting closer. I can feel it in my bones. I hear it on the wind... But mostly, I see it on mobile storefronts. Digimon Up has opened pre-registration, and I am remarkably excited. Despite the fact that the milestone bonus is a bit of a joke.

Digimon Up is a Tamagotchi-style simulation game, but with 100% more digital monster throwdowns. You hatch your new best friend (Gabumon) from an egg, train them up into the ultimate killing machine, more often than not covered in guns, and then send them into battle. And what is friendship, if not turning one another into a war machine?

Since Digimon ReArise, we have been sorely lacking the franchise on mobile by and large, so it is going to be fantastic to have it back. Especially back to its old roots as a virtual pet, with the upside of no Digivice to randomly start making loud noises as you walk around.

We all have our favourite Digimon, whether that be Gabumon, Gatomon, or Gaomon. Apparently, Bandai nailed it on the Gs. But there is another G who I can all but guarantee no one has said is their go-to; Gekkomon. Even bearing in mind its starring role in Digimon Beatbreak, I am afraid it is awful.

Gekkomon doesn't exactly scream, "Pre-order now"

Yet, Bandai disagrees, as this foolish-looking fiend is the main attraction for Digimon Up's pre-registration campaign. A rather humble 100k signatures will unlock Gekkomon as a support for everyone, along with DigiEmeralds, Skill Card Summon tickets and Supporter Summon tickets.

And it is that topic that admittedly gives me pause on this game. I love Digimon, and I am sure this will be no different. However, the storefront descriptions say you can buy things that “enhance gameplay and speed up your progress”. I do not want any PvP aspect to be P2W, so this worries me a lot. Something to watch out for closer to release.

You can pre-register for Digimon Up on the App Store and Google Play.
