Clash Royale is ending the XP system and the King’s Journey milestones
Still not enough to appease the players though...
Clash Royale has had multiple ups and downs throughout the years. It was dead, then brought back to life by content creators (credit where credit is due), and then destroyed by people eager to take credit for the game being brought back to life.
Anywho, I'm not here to rant about how terrible the game's development is, and why I wouldn't be surprised if it returns to the grave. Instead, I'm here to tell you the developer's most recent decision: the removal of the XP system.
The XP system and King Journey in Clash Royale will be replaced with Collection Level
If you're not in the loop, Clash Royale's level system currently uses XP mechanics. You can gain it by levelling up cards or donating cards in your clan. The developer said that they want to make it easier for players to track their progress, so they will simplify this system, hence the creation of Collection Level. The Collection Level system calculates the levels of every card you own. Each Evolution and Hero form you have will additionally add +5.
Since higher-rarity cards start at a higher level, they will immediately give the same points as their starting level. However, the subsequent upgrades will give a normal +1.
For example, getting the Rare-card Valkyrie will give you +3 levels, since it starts at level 3. Then, each level up would give you +1 level. When you unlock Valkyrie's Evo, you will also get +5 levels.
You will begin getting rewards at Collection Level 20, and every 10 levels after that. Once you reach Collection Level 1500, you will get rewards every 5 levels.

To celebrate the new system, you will also get extra rewards when the update rolls out. The reward you get depends on your Collection Level, where you can get up to 5000 gems if you're at level 2001+. The lowest gift is 500 gems, for those between levels 20 and 200.
The devs also promise that your King Tower level will not go below your current level after the change. It will be the same or higher. Since the XP system will not be there, your King Tower level shall be determined by certain card upgrades.

For example, to reach King Tower level 15, you must have 14 cards at Level 15+. To reach King Tower level 11, you need 10 cards at level 10+. This incentivises players to focus on levelling the cards they like, so that they can increase their King Tower level.

Card Mastery will also get an update to its milestones, making it far easier to complete. In exchange, the reward will be switched to only gold, so you can't get cards, gems, or wildcards from it anymore.
Overall, the rewards will mostly see an increase with a few decreases here and there. You can check out the specifics in the table below:

Note:
- Old System: Old Mastery + King's Journey
- New System: New Mastery + Collection Levels
This update is set to arrive on May 26, 2026. So if you want to ensure you're at the maximum possible Collection Level before the change arrives, you still have time to upgrade your benched cards.
