Daily Double: Imp or Oaf?, Inferno for Free

Posted by Bonnie Eisenman on December 19th, 2009

Remember that there are many developer-wide sales going on today in addition to the Appvent Calender! EA Games' ten-game sale, Chillingo's Wild $0.99 Sale, and Gameloft's Countdown to Christmas Sale are all active and going strong!

From the Appvent Calender, though, we have quite the quirky game today. Imp or Oaf? is a simple game in which you have to tell if you're looking at an "imp" or an "oaf." The graphics are just what you'd expect in an illustrated children's book, and the audio is good too. The name says it all, and App Store reviewers are gushing over the game. Here's what the developers have to say:

"In the game, you’ll see a picture of either an imp or an oaf. It’ll be an extreme close up so you might not be able to tell what it is at first. But, if you can, press either the ‘IMP’ or the ‘OAF’ button to make your choice and you’ll get a full 100 points! Great Job!

"If you can’t tell what you’re seeing at first, you can tap the screen to zoom out. Your view will move a bit too so that you can see a different part of the picture, but you’ll lose a few points with each tap to zoom out. The more you can see, the easier it is to tell. Simple!"

Yesterday, I mentioned that UniWar was free in celebration of the developer's upcoming game. Well, Uniwar's developer, Xpressed, has just released their latest game, and now it's free today! The Inferno is an action-puzzle game which places you in the shoes of Dante. Yup, that Dante. I wonder what Alighieri would've thought of this? Anyway, in The Inferno, Virgil guides you through the circles of Hell and you have to brave Hell's dangers. Xpressed is taking an interesting approach to this game, releasing three different versions: a free version with 23 levels; a $0.99 version with 50 levels; and the full, 121-level version for $2.99. Whichever version you chose, the other levels may be purchased via in-app purchasing. Today, the 50-level version is free as a promotional offer!
