Grand Theft Auto Hijacks The App Store Next Week

Posted by Blake Grundman on December 6th, 2011

Ten years ago a little game by the name of Grand Theft Auto III took the world by storm and revolutionized the way that games were played.  Along with causing a boatload of controversy, the title went on to birth a whole new genre of open world games.  It only seems appropriate that a decade later Rockstar has decided that it was time to go back and give the game a proper anniversary re-release.

Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition is set to land on the App Store next week, December 15th to be exact, for a mere $4.99.  This is a huge deal for fans of the series, as well as for a whole new generation of iOS gamers that will be introduced to the franchise.  It somewhat goes without saying, but it will be interesting to see if this is the kind of title that can stand the test of time.  We look forward to taking it out for a "test drive" very soon.

GTA Coming To The iPhone

[/caption]Apparently unhappy that GangStar is the only 3D GTA style game on the iPhone, Rockstar Leeds has announced today that they will be bringing over GTA: Chinatown Wars to the iPhone later this fall. "Chinatown Wars is a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod touch," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "We are very excited to bring this incredibly ambitious version of Liberty City, with this level of detail and immersive gameplay on Apple's new gaming platforms."

Currently, GTA: Chinatown Wars is currently only available for the Nintendo DS, but is coming out later in the fall for the PSP. The official press release, from which I got the lovely quote above, can be found here for your reading enjoyment.

I don't have many details now, but it's safe to say that I'll be scouring the internet for an official promo video. Enjoy!
