MUD's Are Coming To the App Store

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Before there were mega MMORPG's like World of Warcraft, and even before the likes of Ultima Online came to fruition, there were MUD's (Multi User Dungeons). MUD's are text based games typically based on the same game mechanics as the pen and paper RPG, D&D. You have to read the descriptions of the dungeons and people inside of them, and all actions are text based. MUD's were so popular, in fact, that games that we now know as MMORPG's, like the previously mentioned Ultima Online and Everquest, were originally called graphical MUD's.

Time has gone by though and people now have all sorts of MMORPG's, free and paid, to choose from. MUDding is still popular, however. The MUD Connector, the most popular MUD site on the web, is bringing the joy of MUDding to the iPhone, with its very own MUD client called TMC Game Client. "The game client connects iPhone users with over 900 free text-based games from all genres ( sci-fi, medieval fantasy, cyberpunk, modern, etc. )."

While MUD's are certainly not for everyone, there should be a place in many hearts for a good text based RPG. They have rich stories, all sorts of great RPG elements, and can be huge. Just to get a grasp on how huge the worlds are, a small one on The Mud Connector is labeled as having less than 3,000 rooms.

If retro, text based RPG's are your thing, then TMC Game Client is probably the most exciting game that you will ever own. Go pick it up in the App Store today, it's free!
