A new app called Karma is trying to make changes to the way that people give and receive gifts. What this app lets users do is to send a gift to a friend from a selection of items that Karma offers, from wines, to baby products, to chocolates, to socks, to even Spotify Premium subscriptions. For users who log in through Facebook, the app throws out handy suggestions based on who has upcoming birthdays. The sender can also customize a card to go along with the gift. Users purchase the item, and then the app can notify that friend, through Messages, email, or Facebook.

The recipient then opens up the link they were given, and then they have different choices on what they can do with the gift. They can customize the gift: for example, a gift of a wine bottle can be switched out for a different wine, or for a different product altogether. As well, the value of the gift can also be donated to charity. Then, the user puts in their address, Karma wraps it up, and sends it off to the recipient. The app is available as a free download for both iOS and for Android.
