Diabetes isn't great. Never mind having to cut down on the sweets or avoid them entirely; it's a potentially serious condition that requires a significant lifestyle change. The American Association of Diabetes Educators' (AADE) AADE Diabetes Goal Tracker app has been designed with this in mind, and is available to help diabetics make the changes they need to keep themselves healthy.

It's not really a medical app, but rather one that lets users set personal goals that they can share and compare with others. Select a category (Healthy Eating, Taking Medication, Reducing Risks, etc), create a specific goal, set reminders if necessary, then track your progress as you work to make something like cutting back on soda a natural habit.

Technology continues to amaze and impress with how it can improve people's lives. A perfect example is that of Glooko and its mobile health services. The company offers a way for diabetes sufferers to monitor their disease through the use of an iPhone logbook app.

The app and accompanying cable based hardware is FDA compliant and automatically syncs with the user's blood glucose meter. Users can then track their readings easily with the information simple to inform healthcare professionals, either in person or via an email based PDF summary.

The app offers further functionality with the ability to add meal tags and notes to readings, giving users a convenient way of checking out exactly what is influencing their blood sugar levels and how. There's even a food database that stores nutritional information for all the user's favorite food.

Ultimately though, the true benefit stems from the ability to track everything on the move and without having to worry about where else to store such information. After all, iPhone users tend to have their iPhone on them at all times, right?

The app is compatible with many popular blood glucose meters so should prove useful to plenty of diabetes sufferers.

The Glooko Logbook app is available now.

One of the toughest things about living with diabetes is the need to constantly monitor blood sugar levels and make sure your body's chemistry doesn't get out of whack. There are plenty of portable solutions out there, but carrying yet another device in your purse or pocket can be a hassle, that's why iBGStar wants to turn your iPhone into a glucose monitor.

The iBGStar device easily snaps into the iPhone's 30 pin dock connector and can instantly send information from your last test onto a specially-designed app. Voilá, no need to carry around an insulin monitor, all you have to have on you is the collection device and your phone.

iBGStar is currently available in England, though the companion app hasn't been released quite yet. We're still waiting for the product to make its way Stateside and have high hopes that it will be arriving in the near future.
