Social networking apps are coming out of the storm drains and seeping through the ceilings. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife!
While the kings of social networking, Facebook and Twitter, are definitely the leaders in the social sphere, there are plenty of people out there that don’t like the status quo. It’s not as if Facebook was the originator of the social networking platform or anything; MySpace was the go-to platform for angst ridden teen, “sexy” girl bots and aspiring bands long before Facebook left the cozy confines of Harvard. The next best thing is only a good idea and a few million dollars away.
As of today, the coolest thing going is DailyBooth, who’s iPhone app just hit version 2.0. According to the developers, DailyBooth is “your life in pictures.” It feels a lot like the love child of some other social networking apps, blending the instant global sharing of Twitter with the streamlined, picture based UI of Path.
Users in DailyBooth are given @ screen names just like Twitter, and are posted the same way in a constantly updating stream. Watching your friends pictures go by is much more entertaining than the text based Twitter, and if the system ever blows up it’ll be a great way to share picture based statuses with your friends.
As for the update, assuming you already have the app, the DailyBooth app can now do just about everything the web based version can do. You can now view the live feed, profile views, activity views, send messages, follow friends, and use the “ghosting feature” which the developers are calling “really fun.”
If you are a social networking fiend and want to jump on the next big thing, be sure to give DailyBooth a whirl. I think you’ll enjoy it.
