Coming soon to the App Store is the Corona Indie Bundle, offering a selection of high quality indie games all in one inexpensive package priced at a mere $0.99.

PC gamers have been fortunate to experience the powers of numerous indie developers put together through the likes of the Humble Indie Bundle. While the ethos behind the Corona Indie Bundle isn’t quite the same, the benefit to players is similar while also helping up and coming indie developers. The hope presumably is that giving players a chance to check out so many games for a low price will then encourage them to follow the progress of each developer with their future titles. Suitably with a name like the Corona Indie Bundle, each game has been made using the Corona SDK, a pretty flexible development kit for the iOS platform.

The games on offer are a varied bunch. In all, there are five: The Secret of Grisly Manor, Chickens Quest, Robot 99, Walkabout and Float.

Usually priced at $1.99, The Secret of Grisly Manor was credited as a ‘solid Myst clone’ by Chris Hall when reviewed last year. It is indeed, offering slow burning yet compelling point and click adventuring. It comes from iOS and PC/Mac indie developers Fire Maple Games, known for the likes of Danger Cats! and Stunt Squirrels! along with a few casual games for the PC and Mac.

Chickens Quest from Gugu Games offers more cutesy fun in the form of some poor chicks in dire need of getting home in order to be reunited with their families once more. Aimed at the family gamer market, it’s a pleasant change of pace from The Secret of Grisly Manor, no doubt ensuring that the Corona Indie Bundle appeals to a varied market. Chickens Quest is available on its own for $1.99.

Another family oriented title is that of Robot 99 from Fu-Design. A reasonably strong debut to the app store, Jordan quite enjoyed the title when he reviewed it earlier this month. What’s not to like about guiding robots safely home? Unfortunately the game can get a bit confusing to keep track of on the iPad but overall it’s a respectable title that some fun can be gained from.

Walkabout reminds me of a simplistic Chip’s Challenge with players having to navigate Queenie around the level in order to collect all the Magic Stars scattered around. 64 levels are available in all with each offering new and more compelling puzzles to keep the action feeling fresh. For those who get stuck, developers Base 2 has kindly offered a walkthrough on their site. Walkabout is usually priced at $0.99.

Finally there’s Float, a game that has the lofty ambition of solely wanting to make its players feel happy. The aim is simple: try to keep the balloons in the air and away from some nasty looking spikes. Praised for being particularly great fun for kids, Float looks like a charming yet simple title that’s bound to offer relaxed fun. It’s from appropriately named developers Elevate Entertainment, usually priced at $0.99.

So that would normally be $7.95 for 5 games while with the Corona Indie Bundle, this bunch will be a mere $0.99. Sounds like a bargain to me and an ideal way to promote indie developers. Even better, it’s been promised that if 100,000 downloads are achieved then another game will be unlocked making it even better value! It’ll be out soon and we’ll be sure to announce it when it does.
