Vivid Games' iOS boxing title, Real Boxing, has reached its two year anniversary on the App Store, and to celebrate the developers have decided to update the game with new features, visuals, and a new mode. The new single-player Arcade Mode challenges players to fight over 15 increasingly difficult stages, with otherworldly boss battles to fight and a unique set of rewards to gain along the way.

Alongside this new game mode, players will also find that Real Boxing now has power-ups and a new statistic called 'Condition', which the developers claim will make leading your fighter to victory more realistic. In addition to this, the game now boasts enhanced visuals, animations, and effects.

Real Boxing is available to download for free from the App Store.

Judge Boxing Fights Yourself with iJudge+

Posted by Kevin Stout on June 1st, 2012
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Are you unhappy about the outcome of a boxing fight? There's been plenty of controversy about plenty of matches where people believe judges may have made the wrong decision. Well now anyone can be a judge and decide for youself whether or not the judge called the fight correctly. With iJudge+ Boxing App, users can track the punches landed on each boxer by tapping the area on the app.

The app displays the two boxers. Each boxer has a variety of buttons around their bodies that users can tap to track a punch that has landed on the boxer. Users can tap the iJudge logo at the middle of the screen to switch back and forth between the score sheet and the two boxers. An in-app purchase can add accuracy to your judging by adding things like knockdowns, hey-makers, ring control, and more. The app is free and the in-app purchase is available for $0.99.

Dumb Studios is a small app development team made up of two brother-in-laws from South Florida.

RobotGladi8tor Review

By Rob Rich on February 20th, 2012
The "open world" and "mega battles" aren't quite as open and mega as expected, but RobotGladi8tor is still a nifty sci-fi brawler. With a few caveats, of course.

Have A Knockout Time With David Haye's Knockout

Posted by Jennifer Allen on June 13th, 2011
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Our rating: starstarstarhalfstarblankstar :: PUNCHING FUN :: Read Review »

WBA Champion David Haye is a bit of a hero in my fair isles of Britain thanks to his ability to defeat pretty much any other boxer in his path. So it's quite exciting to see a game focused around David Haye.

David Haye's Knockout is a new game to rise from the ashes of the sad closure of Bizarre Creations (famous for The Club, Blur and James Bond 007: Blood Stone on an array of different consoles). It's a boxing title but not one solely focused on brute strength as some careful manoevres and strategies are needed to truly succeed.

Developers, Grubby Hands, promise that David Haye's Knockout will be easy to learn but tough to master, offering just as much emphasis on evading and defending as on defeating the opponent. The graphical style also looks appealing, offering some great arty graphics rather than a more typical, photorealistic appearance, and the game even offers its own 'Matrix Mode' whereby players can perform moves in slow motion, thus feeling more in control.

Plus, dirtier players can feel smug as they taunt and trash-talk their opponent by shaking their phone. Ideal stress relief!

It's out now, priced at $2.99.

Fight Night Champion Rings the Bell on iOS

Posted by Blake Grundman on February 7th, 2011

Boxing is an amazing sport.  Say what you will about grown men duking it out until their faces look like raw hamburger meat, but there is truly a sweet science and amazing amount of intellect that goes into performing at the sport's highest levels.  Sure, Mike Tyson may not look like a card carrying MENSA member, but his procedural intelligence inside of the ring was only undercut by his tenacity to destroy the competition.  However, the issue has always existed that there was no way to fight as the legendary figures of boxing on the iOS... until NOW!

Electronic Arts has just announced that they will be bringing the next iteration in their award winning Fight Night series, to the iOS.  Though details are a bit hard to come by at this moment, they did let a few details slip:

FEEL LIKE YOU’RE IN THE RING
With fluid touch controls, every tap, flick and gesture keeps your boxer ducking, weaving, jabbing, and moving around the ring  ̶  just like you were there yourself. With full audio commentary from Joe Tessitore.

FRIENDS BECOME FOES Measure your skills against your friends in a Multiplayer fight via local Wifi or Bluetooth. Feel the rush of adrenaline as you lay your friend’s boxer out, or the agony of a right hook to your boxer’s jaw. Make it personal.

Aside from the feeling of landing yourself in the heart of the ring, the outstanding roster of boxing legends will aid in further enforcing the authenticity.  Featuring the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and the aforementioned Mike Tyson, you will even get the chance to step into the ring as the greatest of all time: Mohammad Ali!

It is hard not to get excited about a game like this, especially given how under represented the sport is in the App Store.  Check out some of the screenshots below and see if you feel the same way!

Not quite a first round knockout but it's still a win. It's like winning because your opponent tried to eat your ears. It's a little bittersweet, but it's boxing... on the iPhone.
