Ramp Champ, a reimagined skee ball game from DS Media Labs and Iconfactory finally showed up in the App Store today. Rarely have we seen such anticipation for a game from indie developers. Unfortunatly to me, the build up doesn’t match the pay off.

Gomi, a game in which you rid the world of pollution by rolling around and eating it, is a highly creative game with a bevy of content. Such a great value is rarely seen on the App Store.

Vending Machine Champ reminds me quite a bit of Halloween candy. It’s great for a while, but then you’ll just get tired of it. Well, maybe you won’t get tired of it, but you will assuredly spoil your dinner.

Ego is the perfect app for the stat junky in everyone. Whether it be to ogle over your Google Analytics stats or your crazy amount of Twitter Followers, Ego will surely satisfy your egotistical needs.

Puzzlings is a whimsical, kid-friendly match-3 with a focus on item collection. While it’s too easy for experienced gamers, it does offer a polished product that should please the casual crowd.

Have you been waiting for a Super Sprint style game for the iPhone? Tiny Utopia’s Formula Racing is a fun no-frills racer that despite some shortcomings succeeds in updating the arcade classic for the 21st century.

Loupe is a simple and straightforward color-picking tool designed to help you keep track of “inspirational” or useful colors. Unfortunately, its already narrow audience might be turned off by its lack of additional features.

The game should be called “Turn tank… TURN!” Because that’s what you’ll be screaming the entire time you’re playing this game. Or maybe “Turn Turn Tank: Alamo Defense” because while there’s honor in playing this humble shooter, you’re not coming out alive.

Keeping up with the Jones’ just became a hell of a lot easier with feX for Facebook. Instantly keep your contacts from Facebook in perfect harmony with your iPhone. Huzzah!

Kill All Bugs solid game mechanics paired with its visual and auditory theme give it a compelling experience for the player. This game is a must for anyone that enjoys tower defense but doesn’t want to break the bank.

This game is really for folks who have tried every other “make a product, sell it to customers before they leave or get angry” style of game. I would try the free one first to see if it holds your interest ~ you might just prefer a burnt hot dog to the game.

Wanna hurl virtual ragdolls really hard at obstructions? Or throw stick-figures gently over a wall? Sound fun? You’ve come to the right place…

Pano for iPhone allows you take ’seamless’ panoramic photos, right on your phone or iPod. But, is it really seamless? I took Pano for a test drive on the new iPhone 3GS.

Magnetic Joe 2 is a paid follow-up to its formerly free predecessor that provides a nice mix of arcade action and momentum-based puzzles. It’s fun, light-hearted fare that will please both fans and newcomers.

This game is the equivalent to a console game “button-smasher” (like Devil May Cry or Jade Empire). Since it’s for the iPhone I’ll call it a “screen-smasher”, it does require some thinking though.

Kevin’s “Utility of the Week” – Week 5

I’m shocked that I’ve been posting these picks for five weeks already. For this week, my utility of the week is the IMDB app – Movie Genie.

Movie Genie is basically just an interface to IMDB (Internet Movie Database). It allows you to search movies and actors and provides you with a ton of details about them. Movie Genie is a well developed and fast app that interfaces with IMDB perfect. The developer promises a lot of features in the feature, but the app is great as-is. Check out the review here.

Are you someone who is all about movies and TV shows and are constantly checking IMDB on your iPhone? Movie Genie is what I’ve been waiting for – an iPhone app for IMDB.

Lexulous (formerly Scrabulous) is a Scrabble competitor that has long outdone Scrabble in the online arena. The iPhone version is sadly lackluster compared to its online counterpart, but for Scrabble fans, it’s still a decent app and a good complement to the online game.

If you’re looking for a unique game with accelerometer controls, give this a look. But expect some control issues.

While World of Tunes only has ten songs, it features a unique full-screen, non-linear gameplay that uniquely utilizes the iPhone’s capabilities and puts it at the forefront of the App Store rhythm genre.

Kevin’s “Utility of the Week” – Week 4

For week four of my Utility of the Week picks I decided to pick an app that’s already been out for a while but happened to go on a huge sale this week – Air Mouse Pro.

Air Mouse Pro is an accelerometer-controller (or touchpad-like) mouse for your computer. After downloading the app and the computer software that goes along with it, Air Mouse Pro can become your mouse, your keyboard, or even an app similar to Remote (to control your media).

Air Mouse Pro is on sale for $1.99. It went on sale on June 12th and I’ve heard that it will only be on sale for a week, so get it by June 19th!

Air Mouse Pro (Remote / Trackpad)

FeedFalls is pretty to look at, but there’s not a lot of function with this form. Imagine channel surfing without ever finding something you want to watch. Now do that with a news paper.

GPS Photorino is an alright picture app. It’s main feature is labeling your location on a picture frame. If you’re always taking pictures on the iPhone and want an easy on-the-spot way to customize them, go for it.

iDroidsMania is a decent platformer, but the botched control scheme and overall lag make it more of a chore than a game. Skip it!

Taxiball is a spin on the Labyrinth genre that has you speeding through narrow city avenues in order to deliver passengers to their destinations. It’s not a must-have, but its charm and personality make it a solid buy for fans of marble-rolling games.

Aw’ Shugs could have been a decent message-in-a-bottle app, but the location-based limit on “catching” messages and the lack of a community makes this one to pass on.

Stoneloops! sets a new standard for Zuma-style match-3s. While the gameplay will be very familiar to most, Stoneloops! of Jurassica brings a new level of finesse and polish to the table.

Maybe contact organizing isn’t as exciting as Pocket God, but I’m about as excited as I can get about contacts with Groups.

Pianofly by Pro Synth is a programmable FM synthesizer app featuring a one-octave onscreen piano-style keyboard. It uses a novel approach for accessing notes outside of this range; the player simply flings the keys to the right or left.

Docked on a nightstand or desk, your iPhone makes for the perfect digital photo frame. DreamStream greatly enhances viewable photo sources by accessing pictures from MobileMe, Facebook albums and Flickr tags among others. Even your friends’ photos aren’t safe!
