Photo filter apps typically go one of two ways. Either, they offer a huge amount of complex options to adjust but take quite a while to truly master, or they’re simple to set up to the slight detriment of functionality. WowFX errs towards the latter. The options might not be quite as grandiose for some purposes but the array of fun and vibrant filters and effects ensures that WowFX will keep the casual photo snapper happy.

It’s a cliche but WowFX can turn a fairly mundane photo into something special. With the focus on effects, users are immediately provided with the many options available to them. The effects range from cascading star type looks to shooting stars and fireballs, culminating in moons, rainbows and lightning bolts. In each case, the effect can be resized with a pinch motion, as well as moved around the image. There’s no way to add effects that are even bigger than the image, which can be limiting, but other than that, the app does exactly what one would want.

It’s possible to add multiple effects to each image, as well as adjust the opacity of the effect involved. Another limitation emerges here with users only able to decrease the effect’s strength rather than increase. Once through this stage, a photo wide filter can be added to change the coloring of the image. It’s a process that only takes around 5 minutes to complete from start to finish, maybe a little longer for those trying out all the different options available. In each case, the app is quick to load and implement such changes.

WowFX might offer some occasionally over the top choices and lack a few finer detail changes, but it’s a quite entertaining app. As any good photo filtering app should do, it’s quick to use and can really turn around a mundane snap. It’ll particularly endear itself to Instagram users with its sharing options.
