Photography app fans know that there’s a ton of different photo filtering apps out there. WordFoto however sets out to do something original – it turns photos into typography.

It’s the kind of style that’s been seen before, particularly on numerous posters across the world, but an app that does it so quickly and easily is rather special indeed.

Users can simply take a photo or load an existing image and tap a button to have text added across it, essentially filling in the image with words. The options are pretty varied ensuring that there’s plenty of different looks to be achieved. WordFoto comes with an array of words and sentences that are appropriate for many different situations such as ‘Be My Valentine’ and ‘Happy Birthday’ but users can always add their own for the desired effect. Customization is further available with the ability to adjust the styling so that the colors change as well as the font used. A comic book effect can be achieved simply enough for example or a more romantic theme too. Besides the 8 preset styles available, users can also create their own simply enough.

Fine tuning options further enhance this with users able to adjust the edging, color tolerance, saturation and more while cropping tools keep images tight and relevant. Once an image has been created, the usual sharing options are available with Facebook functionality as well as email being viable choices.

It’s the results that make WordFoto so special though as even the most uninteresting of images manages to appear more exciting once put through the WordFoto algorithms. It’s perhaps a little pricey for a photography app that does one specific role compared to the likes of FX Photo Studio offering so many more filters at the same price. $0.99 would be much more palatable, but WordFoto is still well worth a look purely for its originality.
