Wikime is a location aware iPhone OS application that will return Wikipedia articles that are location tagged near your current position. For this to work, WikiMe need to get your current location from the build in GPS. It’s a great tool for finding out about areas you travel to but is hampered by the number of articles in Wikipedia that are actually tagged.

iPhone Integration Rating: ★★★☆☆

While WikiMe integrates well with the GPS system in the iPhone, it stops there. Contacts integration seems like a natural addition to this application. An ideal feature to add would be the ability to add a contact based on the results returned or find results near a contact.

User Interface Rating: ★★★★☆

The user interface is fairly well done. The only issues is with the text size on the Wikipedia articles. They can be rather hard to see without zooming in. Many mobile Wikipedia programs will process the returned article for better viewing on the smaller mobile screens. That would make a nice addition to this application.

Re-use / Replay Value Rating: ★★★★★

One thing you can say about this application is that it provides value. I’ve found myself referring to this application many time while away from home. The results it finds are interesting, educational, and surprising at times.

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆

Overall a good value for an informational program such as this. With a few tweaks this could be come a world class application.
