Photo editing apps are in no short supply these days. I’ve tried many of them and I am very picky about which ones I keep on my phone. Typic is a new photo-editing app that has caught my eye and has the ability to add not only filters and borders to images, but also text to really make photos stand out.

Typic works like many other photos editing apps available in the App Store. First step upon launching the app is to choose a picture from the iPhone’s camera roll to edit or snap a picture directly from within the app. Next, Typic presents five different filters in addition to the option of applying no filter to the image. After the filter is selected, the app then takes users through the process of adding text on top of the image. This is the big selling point of Typic. There are currently seven different fonts to choose from, each able to create a new look. The text can then be made bigger or smaller depending on the user’s preference. Once the text is applied, the option is given to add more or less opacity and to blur the background to give a nice, soft feel to bring the text to the forefront of the photo. A border is automatically added around the photo and can be made black or white.

There is a lot to like about this simple app. The interface is beautiful, smart and simple. Editing photos can be done in seconds and can then be exported to the phone’s camera roll, to an email, to Twitter and Facebook and even to Instagram. I’ve loved the pictures that I’ve created so far and I think they are different than many other pictures I’ve seen floating around on the social networks. It's amazing what a little text can do.

Typic does have some great qualities but there are a few things that could be improved in future updates. For example, I feel that there is a limited amount of filters. The filters available are great but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of variety. The border that defaults to every picture adds a nice touch as well but I wish that it could be removed in some cases. Also, I’d really like to see the option to make the font different colors since the only color available is white.

Aside from those small issues, Typic is one of the cleanest and simplest photo-editing apps I’ve used and I'd recommend it to anyone. It’s available now for free so there is really nothing to lose and only fun photos to gain.
