Trial Xtreme 2 Winter Edition is being called the "sequel" to Trail Xtreme 2, but in all honesty it seems like more of an expansion of the previous title. That's not to say that the content isn't there. This game comes packed with 30 all new levels that are all as challenging and satisfying as those found in its predecessors. The bike motion, controls, and physics continue to be spot on. Whether the user uses tilt or button based touch controls they are responsive and translate perfectly to the action on screen. The tilt controls can make it a bit hard to follow the action while tilting the device back and forth and player's fingers might miss some buttons here and there, but overall the controls work well.
The main thrust of the game remains the same as well. The player controls the gas, the brakes, and the tilt (forward or backward) of the rider on the bike. By manipulating these controls the player guides the bike and rider through insane wintery stunt tracks filled with ramps, loops, and other dangerous obstacles. The occasional exploding barrel even makes an incendiary appearance. Players complete each level by reaching the end without crashing. There are checkpoints to ease a bit of the frustration of having to start over multiple times, and reloading levels after a crash is super quick making it easy for players to keep at it without getting overly frustrated. The gameplay in Trial Xtreme 2 Winter Edition is essentially identical to the other Trial Xtreme games but it's clear that this similarity is borne of the "if it ain't broke" state of mind. It plays smoothly with very few hang ups. Players will enjoy this titles, even if they haven't played games of this style before.
