It's a little overly-encouraging when it comes to in-app purchases, but that doesn't stop Touch Racing 2 from being a pretty fun casual racing game. Working your way up from a basic vehicle to a pretty smooth ride is fun and varied here.

Laid out like a lot of racing games of this type, you work your way through a series of tiers. Each tier offers plenty of different races, along with some boss battles. Complete the boss battles and you can progress to the next tier for a more challenging experience and so forth. What's different here is that you have three vehicles to use: an off-road car, speedy car, and boat. They handle roughly the same but such visual changes are still quite welcome in terms of mixing things up.

Controls are fairly original for the genre as besides having a virtual wheel to control, there are also touch and drag controls. Using your two thumbs, you can manipulate the car in a way that becomes quite intuitive and more enjoyable than the usual virtual d-pad way of doing things.

Complete a race and you earn coins, which can then be used to upgrade parts of one of your vehicles. Coins aren't just gained for victories either, with money also made from finesse, drifting, and hitting the many nitro boosts on each track. The races only ever last a minute or two, lending themselves well to the mobile format.

The problem here is that Touch Racing 2 offers an energy system to slow you down, so you only get a few limited races each session. There are wait timers for upgrades too, which can grate after a time.

Still, have a little patience and Touch Racing 2 is a blast to play. Its single-player campaign is backed up by a multiplayer mode in which you take turns to race each other, ensuring there's always something to do. It's really quite entertaining.
