"Welcome to Vindiqo Research Laboratories," is the first voice players hear when they wake up. What place is this? Questions will only be answered as players make their way through The Stormglass Protocol, where sixteen locked doors and portals remain between the player and their hope for freedom.
Set from a first-person perspective, The Stormglass Protocol creates an immersive experience in the form of a unique puzzle adventure room escape. From the onset, it is without doubt that huge amounts of effort have gone into creating what essentially is one of the most gorgeous iOS games one could lay eyes on. From the quirky narrative jokes to the highly-explorable rooms, The Stormglass Protocol doesn’t miss a beat.
One aspect of the game I cannot hesitate to mention is the solid design of the user interface and just how smooth and sleek the controls happened to be. This game feels like it has been designed with the iPad in mind and happens to have done an outstanding job of creating a truly immersive and engaging experience.
The Stormglass Protocol certainly holds up on its promise of a idiosyncratic, dark-humored adventure accompanied by unique and interesting puzzles that never repeat. From Da Vinci’s lair to The Game Show room, each of the sixteen areas are widely distinct from each other. A throwback to adventure games of the past, the game mechanics revolve greatly around trial-and-error with a handy hint system for players who need that extra guidance.
With an absence of any soundtrack, the game operates purely by the occasional sound effects produced by the player and that of a mysterious female voice to guide the way. It’s easy to get drawn right in to this mysterious and atmospheric world, and the ongoing diversity of puzzles and locations provide enough entertainment here to keep players invested throughout.
The Stormglass Protocol is unlike any room escape game on iOS, and for that reason alone is enough to warrant unlocking the full experience. For the cracking price of $0.99 there’s enough here to keep players engrossed for hours upon hours.
