Stick Town RPG is simultaneously the most basic of RPGs and the most complex. It doesn’t look great, but in terms of sheer scope I’d struggle to think of anything better than it.

It’s a life simulator, basically. Your goal is to become obscenely rich with a net worth of $1,000,000,000 in as few days as possible. How you do this is entirely up to you. You can opt to scrape by as a waiter or you can choose to work towards a better job as an IT consultant, for instance. More excitingly, you can become a criminal, collecting weapons in order to rob folks, or you can opt to become a sailor or pilot. The world is your oyster to an extent, and Stick Town RPG does offer plenty of options.

Even playing it for a few days quite solidly feels like only scratching the surface. Imagination is the key limiter here rather than what the game offers. I started out as a waiter, working slowly towards promotions and doing some side projects in my spare time. Then I realised that buying a boat and completing simple mini games at a Lighthouse was a great way for earning fast cash. Then I decided to buy property to make it accumulate faster. I dabbled in acting and farming along the way too.

In terms of variety, Stick Town RPG is unsurpassed. At times, that’s a little overwhelming but it means that it’s also the kind of game you’re going to find yourself returning to. There aren’t any timers to deal with or any great need to return often, but you’ll want to chip away at such carefully cultivated success. You can buy a few things with real money to progress faster, but it’s hardly a game breaker.

The only real issue with Stick Town RPG stems from its aesthetics. It isn’t great to look at and there’s no sound to enjoy, either. Still, Stick Town RPG is a really quite compelling experience and you’ll always find something new to do here.
