Instead of scheduling meetings or struggling to get everyone on the same call, it’s now possible to avoid all the interference and hassles and get right down to business without worrying about being in the office behind a desk or getting into the conference call on time.

Speek is an iPhone app that helps users stay connected without the hassles of traditional conference calls. Its interface is designed to let users make free visual conference calls with just a few taps on the screen. There aren’t any phone numbers or PINs to remember, there’s no need to worry about scheduling and the app boasts that there’s even no elevator music.

In order to get started, users simply choose their own personal link destination ( to begin a conference call. Users can also enter another Speek name to join a phone call. When a call is made, it’s then possible to see who joined the call. It is impressive to be able to see everyone’s names on the screen, but the most surprising element about a conference call is that the name of whoever is speaking is highlighted with a blue box so there is no confusion. Also, not only can users talk instantly, but they can also share images and files.

The interface is quite intuitive. While a call is in progress, it’s simple to add another caller through text, email or calendar invite. Users can even mute and remove participants with ease. The ability for others to join calls by entering the user’s assigned Speek name either through the app or through the unique web page means that there’s no excuse for missing another conference call again.

When comparing Speek to other conference call apps that are available, it seems to lack some business-friendly features that could help beef it up like call recording, custom hold music and other ways to invite users as well as ways to view their profiles through social media like LinkedIn and Google+. These missing features aren’t deal breakers by any means, but more features in future updates could help keep the app on top of its competitors.

Overall, Speek is the perfect conference call app for anyone who just needs a simple and no-frills way to connect with others. I don’t make many conference calls, but I will be using this app to stay in touch with family all at once because it’s a great alternative to Skype. Since it’s completely free and pretty awesome, I recommend that everyone add it to their arsenal of business and voIP app collections today.
