While SlotZ Racer Caterham Special is a placeholder for the full version of SlotZ Racer which is temporarily unavailable while it’s updated to full HD, it has legs of its own to stand on. The original slot car racing game was born around this time in 2009 and became quite the overnight sensation.
Luckily, for all of the racing fans out there that want to take a stroll down memory lane with little fast cars on tiny tracks, the interim game offers quite a bit of race action. And it’s free. Players will also be happy to know that the gameplay is just as fun as ever and still retains the approval from Caterham Cars, which means there are five versions of the Caterham Seven car.
Controls are still extremely responsive and accurate, and they demand both precision and strategy when approaching treacherous turn four, or any turn for that matter. Too much throttle and just like when we were all kids, the car goes flying off the track. The only issue I have with this is that the car is placed right back on the track and can still overtake first place.
This is a bit far fetched as anyone knows that a wreck is fatal and there’s no chance for first place in real slot car racing. But, this is a game, and being able to takeover the leader after a nasty spill is quite fun.
In preparation for the new version coming out, this free version will work as a Party Mode controller. The game will also soon have language localization in Italian, German, French and Spanish as well as feature Caterham Drive Experience drift cars.
For the amount of gameplay, assortment of tracks, player modes and use of the Caterham cars, SlotZ Racer Caterham Special is more than a stepping stone, it’s legit entertainment worth the download.
