Noise machines were all the rage back in the day. These devices became so popular you could pick up a cheap device at your local grocery store. They started out providing very few sounds like rain falling on a tin roof, or the ever-popular white noise (a.k.a television static). While these devices may have slowly drifted into obscurity, their legend lives on in new forms. Sleep Pillow is one such form.

Sleep Pillow brings on a slew of sounds for you to enjoy. Need a day at the beach in your cubicle, or maybe you want to fall asleep to the sound of rain. These ambient noises are only the start of what is available in the app. Jet engines, boats, cars, rain, beaches, and even city life finds their sounds wonderfully captured in this app. There are even some musical scores for those that want a bit more than just the cawing of seagulls gracing their ears.

The app interface is remarkably easy to use. Clearly defined photos indicated the type of noise about to come out of your speaker. A heart icon can be tapped to add specific effects to your favorites list. A sleep timer is available if you only need these sounds running for an hour. The app even works when you send it to the background and turn off the screen.

The only gripe comes from sound selections. A good amount of sounds come included with this app, but being able to choose between thunderstorms, rain falling on a tin roof, or just a sprinkle would be nice. It may make the app bigger in size, but selection is the spice of life. Even being able to choose three or four different city sounds would go a long way to really making this a top-notch app. It is also highly recommended you use some good quality speakers with this app if you have them. The effects included are recorded really well, and that is ever more apparent with good speakers.

Sleep Pillow is easy to use, provides good effects, and is much more portable than some sound machine. Regardless if you use this to relax after a rough day of work, or just need it to help you sleep, this is a good app for the task of relaxation. Give the free version a spin if you need to test it out before you purchase it.
