Trying new drinks is part of the fun of going out with friends, but it’s usually difficult to remember these drinks later. The iPhone has made it possible for users to log this information through apps, but there aren’t too many that cater to all alcoholic beverages.

Shindig is a new drink journaling app that includes a long list of beers, wines and spirits. It’s a way for users to remember drinks they’ve tried, leave reviews, and share with other community members. It’s essentially an exclusive drink explorers club, where the only membership requirement is to take an oath to try new drinks, create fun and a little weirdness and to never drink alone.

When it’s time to start exploring drinks, users are tasked to sign in with Facebook. The app promises not to post without permission, but this may still be a let down for those who try to avoid linking social media to everything. Once signed in, users can follow others or immediately begin journaling.

To find a drink, simply type in the first few letters into the search bar and beverages will immediately begin showing up on the screen. When a drink isn’t available, users can go in and add it themselves. When a drink is selected, users can share with friends, get back to drinking or journal the drink for later. Journaling allows users to add tags like the alcohol percentage and taste description as well as notes, thumbs up or down, a photo snapshot and a location of where the drink was discovered.

The main screen lets users view what others are drinking or it’s possible to explore the journal at any time. In addition to journaling, users can discover recipes and facts and even follow drinkers who share the same taste buds as well as leave comments and likes.

Aside from the disappointment of having to use Facebook, there’s not anything that I didn’t love about Shindig. The layout is sharp, it’s easy to navigate and there’s a huge list of drinks. Furthermore, an exciting gamification element is coming soon where users earn points and rewards.

Those who like to drink or anyone who goes out for drinks with friends and colleagues often should add Shindig to the home screen. Since Shindig is completely free, well-designed and just plain awesome, there's no reason not to join the drink explorers club today.
