Looking rough around the edges, Running for Weight Loss PRO still offers plenty of handy functionality for those keen to start running.

It's that time of year where many of us are re-evaluating a few things, most notably whether there's enough spare room to one's body to squeeze in Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is where some people could probably do with an app like Running for Weight Loss PRO, just to give them a head start on the exercise front. While I'm a little unsure as to how useful it is for total beginners, despite its good intentions, it's still a pretty convenient app.

Running for Weight Loss PRO covers ground that many other running apps already have, but it does so in a fairly clear (if not entirely attractive) way. Setup doesn't require signing up to anything, although Facebook integration is available, leaving users simply needing to highlight what level of running ability they are currently at. After that set up period, users can dive straight into each day of the predefined workout, with each day covering a multitude of activities. Like any good quality app, Running for Weight Loss PRO places emphasis on warming up and cooling down before delving into interval training according to one's needs.

From my experience of starting out on such courses, Running for Weight Loss PRO felt a little harsh for absolute newbies with little direction over the definition of sprinting or running, but it does get easier. The app works equally well indoors or outdoors, ideal for such autumnal weather conditions. It also makes up for a slight lack of direction with some comprehensive tips on how to train well, and even what to wear while running or what to eat and drink. Other handy and more subtle features are in there too, such as easy to use music controls with large and clear buttons.

The more one uses Running for Weight Loss PRO, the more useful it becomes with plenty of tracking options for distance and how many calories have been burned, as well as any relevant GPS information. In each case it's not the most stylish of interpretations, but it is clearly done.

Covering most of the features that one could want of such an app, Running for Weight Loss PRO might not stand out visually but it's still a very useful tool. Its flexibility is a real advantage among so many flashier yet more shallow alternatives.
