Running was Forrest Gump's forte, so obviously an Endless Runner 20 years later makes sense, right?

Remember "Forrest Gump?" That was a good film 20 years ago. A touching film about a man who wasn't the brightest of people but still managed to create a very exciting if ultimately tragic life for himself. It rightly won 6 Oscars including Best Actor for Tom Hanks. What's the best way of celebrating such a film? If you answered by making an Endless Runner game about it, well, you're going to be happy here. Meanwhile, I'm going to worry about you.

Run Forrest Run is that game. It's not actually that bad a game, although it is a very samey endless runner, but seriously - why make a game of a film like this?! It makes little sense, especially given the age of the film.

Playing as Forrest, you run, and run, and run. One backdrop is free while others are unlocked through a premium currency that's tricky to come by. The action is the same, though. You swipe left and right to dodge oncoming vehicles and other obstacles, while swiping up to jump over them and down to slide under them. There are plenty of coins to collect, with these coins available to use to buy one-off or more permanent upgrades.

There are power-ups too, such as a hang glider boost and a multiplier. Daily challenges and missions provide some kind of motivation and structure, which is handy because there's no Game Center support for competing with friends.

It's all functional enough for an endless runner but it never goes a step further, meaning it's always a game that you'll feel you've played before. A lot. Plus it's a bizarre use of a charming movie story. It won't cost you anything to download but do bear in mind that we could all do so much better than this.
