As a lover of cooking and food I don't think you can ever have too many recipe books, something that works with iOS device apps too. You really can't have too many recipe apps if you ask me. After all, that's how versatile cooking is. There truly are thousands of different ways of cooking your favourite foods. Real Simple Recipes aims to help those people who have limited time to cook, which is pretty much everyone at one time or another, right?

It's as simple as the title suggests. Loading the app presents you with some basic options - what food do you want to use (i.e. poultry, vegetarian, pasta and so on) and how long have you got - 20, 30 or 40 minutes. Touching Go then gives you a whole wealth of options which match these criteria. You can filter the results even more so by choosing another option or two such as low calorie or one pot.

Once you've found the recipe you want, you can do all manners of things with it. You can simply read and follow the instructions by yourself, you can add your own notes, watch a video associated with the recipe (sometimes these guide you from beginning to end, other times they just provide handy tips) and you can view a step by step guide, as well as check out all the nutritional information. It's all really rather comprehensive and it's very simple to navigate. The imagery is attractive and the instructions very easy to understand. Even your technophobe grandmother should be able to get to grips with it making it extra useful in the kitchen.

As is common with recipe apps, you can add items to your shopping list and also list your favourites. Everything about Real Simple Recipes works just how you want it to work. Annoyingly though, there are some pesky ads on the scene which affect just how much screen space you have available to you. This wouldn't be so bad if it was an inexpensive app but at a penny under $5, it feels a little off.

Still, despite this minor blip, Real Simple Recipes is an ideal app for the time restricted chef and the presentation really does boost the satisfaction you can garner from it.
