Requiring the latest devices as well as iOS 9 at a time when a few apprehensive sorts might still be waiting it out, you’d expect Raceline CC to be a significantly different beast to what it actually is. While it certainly looks pretty, it actually plays a lot like most drag racing games. It’s fun to play but don’t expect much variety after a time.

Much like our preview predicted is initially great fun but it turns samey. It’s conducted in the same kind of vein as CSR Racing. You take part in various short races where it’s all about maintaining speed and slingshotting from behind other vehicles, without a corner in sight. Outside of racing, you upgrade your bike so it’s even faster the next time round.

Racing is simple enough. You tap on a green button to build up your revs before setting off. A tap to the left or right has you moving amongst the traffic. It’s all lane based rather than fluid, but it works. A reticule demonstrates when you’re getting close to another vehicle. Switch lanes at just the right moment and you gain a boost to your speed. Mistime it and you get stuck in traffic. It’s simple yet enjoyable the first few times.

The problem is that if you play Raceline CC for too long, you realise just how samey it is. Perhaps then, it’s advantageous that an energy system slows you down. After a few races, you’ll have to wait it out for your fuel to replenish, meaning you’ll only ever get to scratch the surface of Raceline CC.

Much like CSR Racing, that’s where Raceline CC works - as a bite sized taste of simple racing. Don’t expect much depth from what’s here but you will enjoy those little sessions, even if they’re not entirely memorable.
