There are some apps that are so addicting that it feels as if they are hostage takers, and then there are ones that feel more like sadists that prey upon some strange subconscious urge to solve impossible problems. Pixel Rooms 2 falls into the second category.
Half the game involves frustratingly tapping and dragging for 3 minutes before giving up. Pixel Rooms 2, like its predecessor, is a game in which the goal is simply to open a door by blindly solving an environmental puzzle. The most rudimentary of clues are provided, and most times there is nothing at all to go on.
As a whole the puzzles are on par with most other similar games, and they rarely feel unfair after the fact. The main problem is that the game seems compelled to balance out incredibly hard levels with, frankly, insultingly easy puzzles. It is almost as if our reward for solving a tough level is to breeze through the next few. This might seem like a good idea but in reality it makes the already brief game much shorter. There are 25 levels with the only replay value being a Speedrun mode that is unlocked after completing the game. This is very short, and really dents the satisfaction of reaching the end as it is pretty anticlimactic.
It's hard to say if I would recommend this app, but because it is ad supported it will not cost anyone anything to give it a spin. Users who have not played similar games might find Pixel Rooms 2 annoying at best, but for those who are looking to try something new and not have to worry about much of a time commitment, then I would suggest it as a simple diversion - but nothing further.
