Pili Pili Rush Free is more of an action game than a puzzle game, with elements of each genre present. This free-to-play, casual game has players running around trying to collect enough eggs before time runs out. The gameplay isn’t spectacular, but it does provide some entertainment.

The premise of the game is a little strange, but is engaging. Players control Pili Pili--a cute, pink, little critter--and collect eggs for Minka. Minka is a fire bird and looks a bit like Big Bird from Sesame Street. Minka doesn’t actually move, so Pili Pili has to do all of the work. There are a certain number of eggs that need to be collected and brought to Minka before time runs out. Pili Pili can only carry a few eggs at a time, so multiple trips are often needed. Obstacles and enemies dot the levels so it’s not just about racing to collect the eggs.

The various levels have platforms and many different types of obstacles. Some of them are stationary, while others move, like boulders. When Pili Pili is hit, he drops all of the eggs he is carrying and then players have to go pick them up again. I like that Pili Pili doesn’t die and that the level continues even if he hits an enemy.

When players fail to complete a level, they can choose to replay it with a certain advantage, like extra time. The only downside to this is that completing a level this way yields less points.

The controls in Pili Pili Rush Free are decent, but not great. There is a slider in the bottom left of the screen with arrows on it and that controls the movement of Pili Pili from side to side. The jump button is in the lower right of the screen; a double tap will produce a double jump.

A limited version game is free in the app store, but users can purchase a full, unrestricted game via an in-app purchase for $1.99. The free version only includes the first level pack with ten levels in it. The full version has 6 level packs for a total of 60 levels and two difficulty modes, normal and spicy. The free version includes both game types, as well.
