Movie tie-in games are historically often a bit of a mixed bag. Usually, on mobile formats, they tend to stray towards Endless Runners, which proves to be a fairly popular genre. In the case of Mr. Peabody & Sherman Trivia however, well, the clue’s in the name. It’s an educational trivia game; one that’s better for kids than adults, but is still quite fun anyhow.

Players must travel around the historical world, answering thematic questions on that region, country, or city. For instance, go to New York and expect questions on American history as well as some lighthearted queries about pizza. Go to the Far East and there are questions about the Great Wall of China, as well as food and cultural customs. It’s simple stuff though, clearly aimed at younger gamers, but it’s also quite interesting.

peabody5peabody7Each area is divided up into different rounds with players needing to answer a set number of questions before moving onto the next one. With limited lives covering for incorrect answers, there’s a slight amount of peril but nothing major here. Some of the answers are a little goofy and unlikely, but that’s all part of the charm.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman Trivia restricts its players solely through an energy system that gradually replenishes over time. Fortunately, more energy can be gained at regular opportunities as well as through in-app purchases.

It’s the kind of casual experience that means Mr. Peabody & Sherman Trivia is easy to dip into at any point and still progress in some way. I was surprised to discover that it taught me a few fun facts too, although a lot of the time the questions were pretty easy to answer.

Proving educational in a fun way, Mr. Peabody & Sherman Trivia is an entertaining tie-in game. It won’t tax the gray matter but its quirkiness will beguile for a short time at least.
